It’s getting towards the weekend now, and this is usually around the time that people who started a new routine on Monday are starting to struggle. BUT DON’T GIVE UP! You’ve taken the first step onto what will be a long road. But ultimately it will be worth it! We’re in a fast moving world and everyone wants everything NOW. Including that body you’ve always dreamed of. But change doesn’t happen over night. It can take up to 4 weeks for you to be able to notice a significant change in yourself. On average, we check our reflection 8 times a day! Our bodies change slowly, and with that kind of frequency we’re not going to notice any changes (same goes for weighing yourself, but that’s a blog for another day!). An excellent way of tracking your progress is to take before and after pictures. Take one at the beginning of your plan. Then take one after 4 weeks. You should notice quite a difference!
It can take 8 weeks for your nearest and dearest to notice changes. These are the friends, family and colleagues we see all the time. Think about it; how often do you actually look at someone you see regularly? We’d probably only notice a drastic change such as a new hair colour, or if their arm was in plaster. Chances are they won’t notice your progress as quickly as you do. But that’s OK! You’re doing this for you anyway! And when they do notice, they’ll be shocked that they hadn’t sooner!
What about everyone else? Well, that can take even longer. People you see rarely can take up to 12 weeks to notice your progress. Again, that’s fine. Part of a fit and healthy lifestyle is being able to have confidence in your own body. It’s always nice to be complimented, so when they do notice take their flattering comments gracefully. But don’t be offended if they don’t come as quickly as you’d like. Remember you are changing for you, no-one else.
Bottom line is, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. You ARE changing. You ARE making progress.
KEEP GOING!
